About

I’m a woman with a challenge: get out once a week and document it.

This blog started out because I couldn’t contribute my time to volunteering or working in this fine city (cause you know, I had 4 kids in 4 years), but I could participate by going places.  And taking pictures.  And talking to people.  And writing about it here.  So this is my opportunity to go to  the parks, festivals, events, restaurants, museums, trails, gardens, and buildings that call Milwaukee (and surrounding area) home.

I’m interested in experiencing Milwaukee as an individual, a family, a spectator, a lover of the outdoors, a mom, an artist, and a student.   I also have dreams of traveling and getting to know other cities.  While this blog is about the city in which I reside, I have a strong urge for wanderlust and getting outdoors.

I grew up in Wisconsin, lived in Seattle after I finished college, and eventually found my way to the Milwaukee area. Before my family grew, I worked in non-profits and then outdoor retail by connecting amazing non-profits in Milwaukee to funds that support their efforts.  I have four small kids, so prepare for a million photos of them (Big T, Little A, J & S) but none of my Pinterest-inspired and organized home.  Most of my time is currently spent hiking, freelance writing, driving kids to school, and avoiding making dinner.  Some of my adventures will be with a circus of children.  Some with my main squeeze, Theo, and some alone.

I post about once a week, but the best way to stay updated is to enter your email address in the “subscribe” box on the main page.  That way you’ll get a message every time I post.  I’ll probably repeat adventures because who can have the same exact experience twice?

Have suggestions for adventures?  I’d love to hear.

Peace,

Amber Storm

There is a website for the Lake Country Area called The Lake Country Mom. She posts all info going on in the Hartland, Delafield, Pewaukee area. She also charges for ads. You could be the Milwaukee Mom and do the same. Just thought you might be interested in this. Saw you on tv this morning.

    Hi Amber,

I’m a reporter for the New York Times and am writing a story about family friendly beer gardens. Any chance you’d be up for chatting?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Enjoyed reading several of your posts and look forward to reading more.

I’m a SAHM, too, for the last 10 years and am hoping to get back into the outside work world next fall when my youngest is in school full-time. I saw you on The Morning Blend this morning and I found your words inspiring and relatable to me. Thank you! Also, I absolutely love your yellow specs! Did you get them in Milwaukee? I need some cool looking peepers!

Hi Heidi! Thanks so such kind words! It sure is a tricky thing, isn’t it? Managing the job of staying at home to manage your home and raise kids while also maintaining a sense of individually. Hopefully we can all be kind enough to ourselves to integrate it all together. Oh, and the glasses? Zenni Optical. Super cheap online glasses. You just upload your Rx and go from there. You’re sort of taking a gamble cause you can’t try them on before you buy, and the quality is so-so, but for like $20 it’s worth it!
